THE SIDELINES : Gubicza on Royals Disabled List
The Kansas City Royals placed starting pitcher Mark Gubicza on the 21-day disabled list today, retroactive to June 30.
The right-hander, who is 4-7 with a 4.50 earned-run average, is suffering from inflammation in his right shoulder. He is expected to resume throwing in two weeks.
To replace Gubicza, the Royals purchased the contract of right-hander Jay Baller from the Omaha Royals, the club’s Triple-A affiliate.
Baller is 2-4 with a 3.47 ERA and 12 saves in 31 relief appearances.
