The $250,000 Arlington Classic, first of three stakes for three-year olds at Arlington International Racecourse, drew a field of seven for its renewal Saturday at 1 1/8 miles.

The other two stakes in the Mid-America Triple are the $300,000 American Derby at 1 1/4 miles on Aug. 4, and the $250,000 Secretariat at 1 1/4 miles on turf on Sept. 3.

One of the top contenders in the Classic is Ogden M. Phipps’ New York-based Adjudicating, who has won five of 10 starts and earned $500,112. He won his most recent start, the Riva Ridge Stakes, at Belmont Park last month.

Russell L. Reineman’s Home At Last, idle since late April, has been training extremely fast at Arlington. He won his last two races, the Preview Stakes at Gulfstream Park, and the Lexington at Keeneland.

The field is completed by Gervazy, Private School, Real Cash, Shot Gun Scott and Sound of Cannons.

Private School won the Ohio Derby, Real Cash ran third in that race, and also was a close third in the Jersey Derby.

Shot Gun Scott annexed the Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park and has been a challenger in several other stakes. Sound of Cannons finished a close second in his last three starts: the Illinois Derby, the Fairmount Park Derby and the St. Paul Derby.
