Storyteller at Universalist Church

Professional storyteller Alecia Grebner will present an all-family program at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church, 1259 Victoria St., Costa Mesa.

Considered the youngest professional storyteller/actress nationwide, the 16-year-old Grebner, recipient of a Nikki Giovanni Award at an annual National Festival of Black Storytellers, is presented by the church’s “How Open the Door?” committee.

Grebner has done many TV commercials and several theater productions, appeared as a principal in the “227” TV series and has performed at libraries, churches and schools throughout Southern California.

Grebner has just graduated from high school and will be attending USC on a four-year scholarship with a major in drama.

The Rev. Gordon Yeaton, a former art teacher at Irvine, University and Self high schools in Irvine before being ordained an Episcopal priest in January, will be guest preacher Sundayat 8 and 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. services at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 4400 Barranca Parkway, Irvine. Yeaton has been active in church programs for teen-agers for several years. This summer he is involved in an exchange program that brings together teens from Southern California and Navajo youths from reservations in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. Laity Sunday, in which lay persons will testify to their spiritual experiences, will be observed Sunday at Presbyterian Church of the Master, Oso and Marguerite Parkways, Mission Viejo. “Open Doors to Understanding Problems of Aging” is the title of a speech to be given by Mallory Vega, director of the Garden Grove Community Adult Day Care Center, Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the general meeting of the Garden Grove United Methodist Women.
