A young boy and his father were recovering in local hospitals Monday night after being shot by an unknown motorcyclist in Clairemont, police said.

Alan Roger Goddu, 39, and his son, Jason, 10, were shot as they rode a motorcycle near the Clairemont branch of the post office around 2:10 p.m. Monday, said Bill Robinson, a Police Department spokeswoman.

The attacker, who was also riding a motorcycle, is still at large, Robinson said, adding that the elder Goddu indicated to officers that the shooting might be related to another shooting on July 11 that he said he had witnessed. That shooting, in which no one was hurt, resulted in the arrest of two suspects, Robinson said.

Jason Goddu was in intensive care in fair condition at Children’s Hospital with wounds to his chest and arm, according to his father, who had been treated earlier in the day at Sharp Memorial Hospital for an arm wound.

Reached at his son’s bedside late Monday, Alan Goddu said that, despite the threats, he was determined that the assailant be punished.
