Roseanne Barr to Sing Anthem for Reds, Padres
Roseanne Barr won’t be trying to get laughs for a change when she sings the national anthem before the second game of next Wednesday’s double-header between the Cincinnati Reds and the San Diego Padres.
Barr was asked to sing the anthem by Padres managing general partner Tom Werner, who also is co-creator and executive producer of her ABC television series “Roseanne.” Barr’s appearance is part of the Padres’ third annual Working Women’s Day promotion at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium.
“I’m totally available (to sing the pregame anthem) for anybody who wants me if they pay my way,” Barr said Thursday.
Singing is part of her new stand-up act, but this will be the first time she has sung the anthem at a baseball game. The Seattle Mariners asked her to sing it before one of their games earlier this season, but she was unable to work it into her schedule.
Barr also said she “would love to do” the anthem at a Cubs game because the “Roseanne” show is based in Chicago or before a New York Mets game because that’s one of her favorite teams.
