A relief fund for earthquake victims has been established by the Los Angeles office of the Philippine consulate general after Monday’s devastating quake and aftershocks that killed nearly 700 people and injured more than 2,600 others in the Philippines.

Consul General Victor G. Garcia III said his nation is gratified by the outpouring of sympathy and help from Americans, including many in Los Angeles’ Filipino community. In addition to financial assistance, however, he said the Philippine government is still seeking medical supplies and rescue equipment.

Garcia said the consulate general has established a Philippine earthquake relief fund at 3460 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 1200, Los Angeles, 90010. The fund can be reached at (213) 387-7400. The American Red Cross’ Philippine earthquake assistance hot line is (213) 739-4543.
