Dean Gives Shoemaker 5th Victory as a Trainer
All-time winning jockey Bill Shoemaker, who retired with 8,833 winners, has heated up in his new role as trainer by winning with four of his last six starters at Hollywood Park.
The 58-year old Shoemaker scored his fifth training victory in 17 races Sunday when Dean, a two-year old Tri Jet colt owned by Fred W. Hooper, came from off the pace to win the sixth race over heavily favored Sea Cadet. Dean raced the six furlongs in 1:10 3/5 to win by 1 3/4 lengths.
In addition to the five wins, Shoemaker’s horses have three seconds and a pair of thirds in 17 races.
