Songs and Violins Mark Stern’s 70th: A who’s who of classical musicians threw a 70th birthday party Sunday in San Francisco for Isaac Stern, as 30,000 people turned out to pay tribute to one of the world’s most famous violinists. Mstislav Rostropovich, the conductor of the National Symphony, stole the show, dancing onto the stage wearing the heavy makeup of a ballerina, a wig and white tutu.
