A 76-year-old La Jolla man was killed and his wife received minor injuries when he attempted to make a U-turn on Morena Boulevard and was struck by another car, police said.

Robert Barrymore of the 1500 block of Coast Walk died about 10 p.m. Monday at Scripps Memorial Hospital-La Jolla, the county medical examiner’s office said. His wife, June, 60, was taken to Scripps and released with minor injuries, hospital spokeswoman Dilene Pulsipher said.

Detective Richard Riley said Barrymore was driving south on Morena, just south of Balboa Avenue, when he tried to turn and collided with a vehicle driven by Michael Linville, 19. Linville was not injured; his passenger, Joe McGrath, 19, received minor injuries and was taken to Mission Bay Hospital, police said.
