Shawn Jamison, a second-team all-Western Athletic Conference pick in men’s basketball last season, and Michael Hudson, a swingman who moved into the starting lineup toward the end of the season, have been declared academically ineligible and have dropped out of San Diego State, school officials announced Wednesday.

SDSU Coach Jim Brandenburg also said in a press release that reserve swingman Eeric White has indicated he intends to transfer.

Brandenburg was on a recruiting trip and could not be reached for comment.

The loss of Jamison, a 6-foot-8 forward-center who would have been a senior, will be the biggest blow to the Aztecs. He led the team with an averages of 16.8 points and 6.9 rebounds a game. After center Marty Dow was lost for the season with a foot injury in early February, Jamison took charge and averaged 20 points and eight rebounds during the last eight games.

In a 108-97 victory over U.S. International, Jamison made 15 of 22 field-goal attempts and scored 37 points. In addition to being picked second-team all-WAC, he was named to the WAC’s all-newcomer basketball team.

Both Jamison and Hudson, who also would have been a senior, transferred to SDSU from Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kans. before last season. The two are good friends and had also played together at Casper (Wyo.) Community College.

Hudson started 10 games for the Aztecs last season, most of them coming toward the end of the season. He averaged seven points a game.

White, who will be a junior this fall, averaged three points a game. He played in 30 games but didn’t start.

He is the third of three freshmen Brandenburg recruited in 1988 to leave the team. Alex Sund quit and Dana Jackson transferred to the University of Minnesota.

The Aztecs have now lost six players from last season’s 13-18 team. Guards Michael Best, Rodney Jones and Kevin Honaker used up their eligibility.
