A man who made a pass at a woman during a party at a South Los Angeles house was shot and critically wounded early Friday by a friend who apparently objected to his actions, authorities said.

Ivory White, 39, of Los Angeles underwent surgery at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center for a gunshot wound in his chest and was in extremely critical condition late Friday, Sheriff’s Deputy Roger Hom and a hospital spokesman said.

Earlier Friday, White had been at an acquaintance’s house in the Firestone district, sharing drinks with two male and two female companions, Hom said. During the party, White apparently fondled one of the women and the two men threw him out of the house.

White left and went to a house a few blocks away in the 1400 block of East 81st Street. The two men apparently followed him and confronted him about 2:50 a.m. One of the men pulled out a handgun and shot White, Hom said.

Investigators were searching for the two men, whose names were not released.
