Sneak Peek: A Boston public-TV station showed Robert Mapplethorpe’s most sexually explicit photos in advance of Wednesday’s opening. Producers of WGBH’s 10 p.m. Tuesday newscast said they aired the “X Portfolio” pictures to let viewers decide for themselves how they feel about them. “The coverage thus far never shows you this,” said John VanScoyoc, the station’s managing editor. “All you get is what is in the mind of the writer.” Station officials said the station received at least 124 calls within 15 minutes of the program’s conclusion--101 of them positive.
