THE SIDELINES : Injured Pitcher Leaves Hospital
Seattle Mariners pitcher Bill Swift, struck on the forehead by a line drive while pitching against Minnesota, was released today from a hospital where he was checked for injuries.
The right-hander will be reevaluated Tuesday, but all tests were normal and he was expected to make his next start Saturday, the Mariners said in a press release.
Swift, 28, was bruised on the right side of his forehead when he was hit by a line drive off the bat of Gary Gaetti in the fourth inning Sunday.
He was taken to Providence Hospital, where he was tested and remained overnight for observation.
Swift lay sprawled on the mound for several minutes after he was hit but never lost consciousness and was able to walk off the field with assistance.
