THOUSAND OAKS : Council Approves Civic Center Design

Share

The Thousand Oaks City Council has approved the architectural plans for the public portion of the Jungleland civic center project.

After months of study and debate, the council voted at a special meeting Monday night to accept the plans of architects Antoine Predock and Dworsky Associates. The plans include a 1,800-seat civic auditorium, government center, council forum, seven-acre park and parking structure.

Some residents have expressed concerns that the auditorium, which will stand 60 feet higher than the nearby Ventura Freeway, will be too high. As a result, city officials directed the architects to find a way to move the building lower on a knoll at the back of the site at Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Conejo School Road.

The architects were also told to make the complex more accessible to the park and to soften the shape of the auditorium tower.

The drawings are the first of four plans that must go before the City Council for approval before the project is completed in 1993.
