SPORTSCOPE : Final Ascot Motorcycle Steeplechase Is Saturday Night

The final American Motorcyclist Assn. TT Steeplechase to be held at Ascot Raceway takes place Saturday night at 8 on the quarter-mile track. Other events scheduled at Ascot this weekend include CMC Motocross tonight at 7:30 and pro stocks Sunday at 6 p.m.

Youth soccer player Debbie Stager of Rancho Palos Verdes will appear in the September issue of Teen Magazine. Stager, 13, is a regional semifinalist for the magazine’s Sportsgirl of the Year award.

Torrance Bodybuilding promoter Pete Samra has received commendations from the cities of Los Angeles, Redondo Beach and Torrance for his efforts to end steroid abuse. Samra, who sells his own line of bodybuilding supplements, has developed a musclemen speakers bureau that visits high schools to discuss the benefits of natural conditioning.

A series of storms in the Southern Pacific Ocean are expected to generate waves of up to 10 feet for this weekend’s Malibu Surf Classic VI at Surfrider Beach. Almost 200 boardsurfers and about 50 bodyboarders will compete, with the finals scheduled Sunday.

Teams in a men’s six-man volleyball league and a 16-inch slow pitch softball league in Manhattan Beach are forming. Residents of both Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach are eligible to play volleyball, which costs $150 a team. Registration ends Aug. 31. Play begins Sept. 4 at Aviation Gym.
