The first two of a projected series of “summit meetings” designed to promote communication among developers, city officials and the public will be held Sept. 18 and Oct. 18 at the Jonathan Club, 545 S. Figueroa St. in downtown Los Angeles.

The 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. meetings cost $40 per person, including lunch and parking, and are sponsored by the Lambda Alpha International land economics society, the California Chamber of Commerce Economic and Job Development Committee and the Community Air Quality Task Force.

“This series will show with successful case studies how communication can be fostered and win-win solutions be achieved,” according to Los Angeles City Planning Director Ken Topping.

Topping’s predecessor, Calvin Hamilton, planning director from 1964 to 1986, said “cities and developers are not communicating in terms the public understands. . . .”

Topping and William Huston, chairman of Watson Land Co., will be keynote speakers at the sessions. Future meetings this fall will include Los Angeles Councilwoman Joy Picus, developers Robert Voit and Wayne Ratkovich, Long Beach City Manager James Hankla and Ray Remy, president of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.

Reservations: William Waldren, Lambda Alpha, c/o Southern California Edison Co., P.O. Box 800, Rosemead, Calif. 91770. (818) 302-9172.
