Dan Gets Rather Angry: Dan Rather doesn’t take kindly to being mocked by his competitors. ABC’s Ted Koppel beat Rather into Iraq and there was a joke going around NBC that the only action Rather saw from his headquarters in Amman, Jordan, was a fight between housekeeping and room service at his hotel. “He’s just watching Jordanian TV,” an NBC executive said in the Washington Post. The NBC exec wasn’t named. “I respect Tom Brokaw tremendously,” Rather said, “but this I don’t respect--even less so because they didn’t have the guts to put their names on it. Why do they do that? It’s in their nature.”
