Raiders to Play in Oakland Now?
Los Angeles Raiders owner Al Davis told his players this week he is “100% certain” they will play their home games in Oakland this year, according to a report published today.
Davis said the team will continue to practice in Los Angeles this year and will commute for games in Oakland, according to the Times Tribune. The team’s scheduled home opener is Sept. 9.
The Palo Alto newspaper quoted one player, who requested anonymity, as saying Davis wanted to give players time to find homes in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The Raiders, who left Oakland in 1981, have already broken ground on a new practice facility in Oakland, the player told the newspaper. The move would be completed by the 1991 season, he said.
Davis was not immediately available to comment today, but Raiders executive assistant Al LoCasale denied the claims.
