Kareem Hooks a Deal: Kareem Abdul Jabbar has slam-dunked a two-year deal with Laurel Entertainment to do TV and film projects. His production company, Kareem Productions, has joined with the subsidiary of Spelling Entertainment under a non-exclusive agreement, it was announced Wednesday. For the team’s first project, Jabbar will be involved in a TV movie about the life of Vernon Johns, one of the first black activist ministers in the South and a mentor to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Ken Fink, who did a segment about Johns for “Saturday Night With Connie Chung,” will direct the project.
