Defending champion Steinlen heads a field of 14 horses invited to run in the 10th Arlington Million on Sept. 2, officials of Arlington International Racecourse said.

The six alternates, to be moved up in case of scratches, consist of four Americans and two Canadians.

No Irish or French horses are entered this year.

Besides Steinlen, the other U.S. horses in the top 14 are: Alwuhush, Classic Fame, El Senor, Golden Pheasant, Pleasant Variety, Prized, Saratoga Passage, Ten Keys and Double Booked, who was moved up from the alternate list after Canada’s Charlie Barley was withdrawn.

Charlie Barley suffered a swollen ankle Thursday after a gallop at the Woodbine track in Toronto.

The invitees from England are Batshoof, Isle De Chypre and Ile De Nisky. The remaining Canadian is With Approval.

The alternates, in order of entry credentials, are Colway Rally, Nediym, Drum Taps, Slow Fuse, Granacus and Secret ‘n Classy. The last two are from Canada.

Opening Verse, originally the first alternate, was declared out Thursday, letting Double Booked replace Charlie Barley.

Steinlen, a 7-year-old owned by the Wildenstein Stable, has won three of seven starts this season, including the Hollywood Turf Cup at Hollywood Park and the Caesars International at Atlantic City.
