Sagon Penn pleaded not guilty Tuesday to felony charges of filing false documents in court and a misdemeanor charge of battery.

Penn, 28, was arrested Friday. He is accused of submitting falsified documents in Superior Court concerning a temporary restraining order and assaulting his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.

Penn was acquitted in 1986 and 1987 of murder, manslaughter, and assault after two highly publicized trials in the 1985 shootings of two police officers and a civilian ride-along in Encanto.

One officer was killed and another was severely wounded.

During his San Diego Municipal Court arraignment, Judge Gale Kaneshiro ruled that Penn should remain in County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 17.
