Coliseum Agrees to Drop Suit if Raiders Stay

In the latest twist in the Los Angeles Raiders saga, the Coliseum Commission voted Wednesday to drop a $58-million breach of contract suit against the team if it agrees by Sept. 11 to remain in the city.

Raiders officials were not immediately available for comment, but Commission President N. Matthew Grossman said it was the panel’s understanding that Raiders managing general partner Al Davis will accept the offer.

“As far as I’m concerned, it is the final offer,” Grossman said.

Under terms of the proposed deal, approved on a 5-2 vote during a two-hour closed-door session, Davis would be allowed to keep an advance the commission gave him in 1984 for stadium improvements that has grown to $10 million with interest.
