Irene C. Carlson; Retired Librarian

Irene C. Carlson, a longtime Studio City resident and Los Angeles librarian, has died in Studio City. She was 87.

Miss Carlson died Friday of cancer, said her great-nephew, Kim Hutchins.

She was born and raised in Omaha, Neb., and came to California in 1930, settling in Studio City, where she lived for 60 years.

Miss Carlson started as a junior librarian attendant in the Van Nuys branch in 1930, earning 80 cents an hour. She later worked at branches in Los Angeles, West Los Angeles and Reseda. She transferred to the Valley Plaza branch in North Hollywood in 1962, retiring in 1967 as a senior librarian.

She has no immediate survivors.

A graveside service will be held Friday in Omaha. Arrangements were made by Praiswater Funeral Home in Van Nuys.

Donations can be made in Miss Carlson’s name to the Los Angeles Library Department.
