A courtroom of spectators watched a videotape of a woman shooting a man tied to a tree, then grabbing him by the hair and delivering the final, fatal shot in the head.

Deidre Hunt, 21, turned her face from the screen Wednesday and plugged her ears with her fingers as the tape of the Oct. 20 killing was shown at her sentencing hearing. The state is seeking the death penalty.

She has admitted killing 19-year-old Mark Kevin Ramsey as part of a tangled murder-for-hire plot. Prosecutors say she and Kosta Fotopoulos tied Ramsey to a tree in woods west of town and shot him to eliminate him as a potential witness. Hunt said Ramsey’s murder was videotaped by Fotopoulos.

The videotape shows Hunt as she steps forward, pulls a silencer-equipped .22-caliber pistol from her waistband and checks it. She raises her right arm and fires three times rapidly. She then steps forward, lifts Ramsey’s head by the hair, places the gun against his temple and fires again.

Assistant State Atty. David Damore said Fotopoulos, 31, made the tape to ensure Hunt’s cooperation in finding someone to kill his wife, Lisa, for her money.
