Ruhlmann and Lively One, a pair of handicap stars in the Charlie Whittingham stable, come off brief freshening periods to head the lineup in the $200,000-added Del Mar Budweiser Breeders’ Cup Handicap at 1 mile Sunday.

The purse includes $100,000 from the Breeders’ Cup fund for eligible horses.

The speedy Ruhlmann highlighted his career with a victory in the $1-million Santa Anita Handicap in March. The 5-year-old son of Mr. Leader has won 10 of 25 starts and earned $1,789,353. His last start was a fifth-place finish in the Hollywood Gold Cup on June 24. He will be ridden by Gary Stevens under high weight of 123 pounds.

Lively One, a 5-year-old son of Halo, will be making his third start in the Del Mar Budweiser Breeders’ Cup. He finished a close second to Precisionist in 1988 and third last year. Winner of eight of 31 starts, Lively One captured the San Diego and Cabrillo Handicaps at Del Mar last year and has earned $1,192,300. He has been idle since a third-place finish in the Mervyn Leroy Handicap in May. Alex Solis has the call with 121 pounds.
