Liberty Christian 50, Coast Christian 14 -- Halfback Gabe Baltodano ran for three touchdowns and gained 151 yards rushing to lead Liberty Christian in the Patriots’ season-opener at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach. Halfback Jeremy Anderson added two touchdowns and 74 yards rushing for Liberty Christian.

La Habra 26, La Serna 0--Jason Johnson rushed for 162 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Highlanders at California High School. Johnson scored on runs of 71 and 50 yards in the first half. Don Anderson scored on a 19-yard run for La Habra in the third quarter and quarterback Grant Mitchell threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Steve Bush in the fourth quarter.

Trabuco Hills 41, Hoover 7--A 52-yard interception return by Brett Sutherland in the second quarter gave Trabuco Hills a 27-7 halftime lead. Ben Rooker, who rushed for 134 yards on 13 carries, scored two touchdowns for Trabuco Hills. Steve Perry ran for 52 yards to score Hoover’s lone touchdown to start the game.

Whittier Christian 41, Dos Pueblos 40--Chris Anaya scored on a one-yard run with 19 seconds left to bring the Heralds from behind at Whittier College. Whittier Christian led, 28-19, at halftime, but fell behind, 40-34, midway through the fourth quarter.
