Bystander Hit by Stray Bullet
A 61-year-old Southeast San Diego man was hit in the back by a stray bullet fired by an unidentified man who had been having an argument with four women.
Eddie Smith was listed in good condition at Mercy Hospital, a hospital spokeswomen said Saturday.
Witnesses told police that two men and four women got into an argument in the 5400 block of Imperial Avenue about 11 p.m. Friday when one of the men pulled out a handgun and started shooting, said Sgt. Chuck Peck of the San Diego Police.
Smith was standing about 60 feet away from the group and was not involved in the argument, Peck said.
Police believe the argument might have been between members of rival street gangs.
