Council Votes to Annex Corridor

The Gardena City Council on Tuesday voted to annex the Rosecrans Corridor, a strip of county land that runs through the middle of the city.

The decision, which becomes official Monday, was strongly opposed by some corridor residents, who told the council that they wanted to stay with the county. There was no opposition last month, however, when annexation was approved by the Local Agency Formation Commission.

City officials, who have sought to annex the area for a decade, say crime will be easier to control if the strip is under the city’s jurisdiction. The corridor, which has about 1,700 residents, extends along Rosecrans Avenue from Crenshaw Boulevard to just east of Western Avenue.
