BETTING WITH SURELOCK : THE SILICON SLEUTH
Janice Goldinger shot for the moon Wednesday on the final day of the Del Mar meeting and hit when her $1,000 win bet on Spell Victorious in the third returned $7.60 for $2. The “Silky Sullivan” performance enabled her to defeat SURELOCK in their handicapping contest after trailing badly most of the last half of the meeting.
The big score gave Janice a profit of $2,800 for the day and she wound up with $3,806.75--an $1,806.75 profit for the meeting. SURELOCK, all three of whose $100 win bets--Supper Time George in the fourth race, Saratoga Passage in the seventh and Power Base in the ninth, all failed to win--wound up with $3,029. Both started the meeting with $2,000 bankrolls.
