TENNIS ROUNDUP : Ivanisevic, Santoro Advance in French Meet

Yugoslavia’s Goran Ivanisevic advanced to the quarterfinals of the Bordeaux, France, men’s tennis tournament today with a 3-6, 7-6, 6-0 victory over Spain’s Carlos Luna.

The second-seeded Ivanisevic, ranked 14th in the world, meets France’s Fabrice Santoro on Friday.

Santoro, 17, defeated Yannick Noah of France, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). Third-seeded Guillermo Perez-Roldan of Argentina eliminated Spain’s Tomas Carbonell, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Fourth-seeded Frenchman Guy Forget, who had withdrawn from the tournament because of the death of his father, changed his mind and will play Friday.

Top-seeded Sabine Hack of West Germany lost the opening set and trailed in the third set, 3-1, but survived to beat countrywoman Silke Frankl, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, in the second round of the Athens Open.

Defending champion Cecilia Dahlman of Sweden beat Italy’s Francesca Romano, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Victories by Gilad Bloom and Amos Mansdorf gave Israel a 2-0 lead over China today in their Davis Cup qualifying series in Tel Aviv.

It was the first appearance in Israel by Chinese athletes. The two countries do not have diplomatic relations.
