CBS, PBS Top Emmys for News : Awards: Two networks took 10 honors each, while TBS’ ‘National Geographic Explorer’ led individual programs.

CBS and PBS won 10 awards each and TBS’ “National Geographic Explorer” picked up four--more than any other program--in the 1989 Emmys for news and documentary programming.

In ceremonies here Wednesday, ABC won six awards and NBC picked up five. CNN, Fox Broadcasting, HBO and MTV each received one Emmy, and an independently produced syndicated program won another. All of TBS’ awards were for “National Geographic Explorer.”

The 40 winners were chosen from more than 900 entries.
