‘Designing Women’ Stars Get Tickets For Emmy Awards

Delta Burke won’t be the only “Designing Women” star on hand for the Emmy Awards Sunday night, after all.

Co-stars Annie Potts, Jean Smart, Dixie Carter and Meshach Taylor had sent a letter to executives at Columbia Pictures Television, which produces the show for CBS, complaining that the studio failed to provide them with tickets to the telecast (cost: $500 each), despite the fact that the series is nominated for best comedy.

Burke automatically got tickets because she is a nominee.

A spokesman for Columbia declined to comment on the matter. But a source close to the show said that Columbia was under the impression that all members of the “Designing Women” cast were going to be presenters at Sunday’s show and therefore did not need tickets.

When news of their discontent leaked out Thursday, Fox offered all four actors free tickets to the ceremony. At the same time, a publicist for one of the actors said that McRaney convinced Universal, the studio that produces his show, to give even better tickets to the four angry stars. Potts, Smart and Taylor accepted those tickets. Carter had already made plans to be out of town this weekend and will not attend.
