College football games involving four Southland Division I teams, Notre Dame’s season opener and Ram and Raider telecasts highlight this weekend’s television sports viewing choices.

Sixth-ranked USC will play host to Penn State at 12:30 p.m. today on Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42. UCLA will try to even its record after a season-opening 34-14 loss to Oklahoma when it meets Stanford at 3:30 p.m. on Prime Ticket. Cal State Long Beach (0-2) makes its 1990 Southland television debut with an 8 p.m. delayed Prime Ticket telecast against San Diego State (0-1).

No. 1 Notre Dame opens its season against No. 4 Michigan at 6 p.m. on Channels 2 and 8. In other telecasts involving ranked teams, No. 17 Ohio State visits Boston College (9 a.m., Prime Ticket); No. 24 Florida faces Alabama (9:30 a.m. TBS, 10 p.m. SportsChannel); No. 13 Pittsburgh takes on No. 14 Oklahoma (11 a.m., Channels 2 and 8) and No. 19 Michigan State opposes Syracuse (4:30 p.m. ESPN.)

The second week of the National Football League season brings the first of two expected Ram-Raider doubleheaders. The Rams, hoping to avoid their first 0-2 start since 1987, meet the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 10 a.m. Sunday on Channels 2 and 8. The Raiders, hoping for their first 2-0 start since 1987, are in Seattle to face the Seahawks with Channels 4, 36 and 39 carrying the game at 1 p.m.

Sunday’s other NFL telecasts feature the Washington Redskins and the San Francisco 49ers (1 p.m., Channel 2) and Houston Oilers and Pittsburgh Steelers (5 p.m., TNT.)

In the midst of all the football, there’s still baseball. The Dodgers, now trying to hold off San Francisco for second place in the National League West, challenge the division-leading Cincinnati Reds at 4 p.m. today and 11:15 a.m Sunday on KTTV Channel 11. In telecasts with more baring on the pennant races, the New York Mets face the Philadelphia Phillies at 10:30 a.m. today and Sunday on WWOR, while the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles take part in ESPN’s Sunday night game beginning at 5 p.m.

Six days after his loss in the U.S. Open finals, Andre Agassi returns to the Forum court for an exhibition tennis match against French Open champion Andres Gomez tonight, with Prime Ticket providing taped coverage at 7 p.m. Sunday.
