GOLF ROUNDUP : Being a Giants’ Fan Makes It Tough on Levi

Wayne Levi likes his position--the lead at the halfway point of the Canadian Open Golf Championship at Oakville, Ontario.

But he doesn’t like the early afternoon starting time the leader will have in Sunday’s final round.

It figures to conflict with the telecast of his beloved New York Giants’ NFL game at Dallas.

Levi has had consecutive rounds of 68 and completed 36 holes at 136, eight under par at the storm-raked Glen Abbey Golf Club.

Second-round play was called moments after Dave Barr three-putted in a pouring rain for bogey-six on his final hole late Friday.

Eleven players marked their positions on the course and are scheduled to return this morning to complete their second rounds.

Bryan Tennyson was second, a stroke off the lead. Tennyson played in the more calm conditions of the morning and did not make a bogey in a round of 67.

Patty Sheehan shot a seven-under-par 65 in the second round of the LPGA Safeco Classic for a one-stroke lead over Sherri Steinhauer, whose 64 was one shot off the course record at Kent, Wash.

Through two rounds, Sheehan is at 134 over the 6,222-yard Meridian Valley Country Club course.

Violent storms that poured two inches of rain on The Highlands course in less than four hours caused cancellation of the scheduled opening round of the Greater Grand Rapids, Mich., Open Senior Tour event.
