Athletics’ Stewart Wins 20th, 9-1
Dave Stewart became the third American League pitcher to win 20 games this season, beating the Minnesota Twins, 9-1, Friday in Oakland.
It was Stewart’s fourth consecutive 20-win season.
The last pitcher to do that, Jim Palmer of the Baltimore Orioles (1975-78), is in the Hall of Fame.
Stewart (20-10) joins teammate Bob Welch (23-6) and Boston’s Roger Clemens (20-6) as 20-game winners.
Terry Steinbach drove in four runs and Stewart pitched a five-hitter.
