THE SIDELINES : Spurs Get Ex-Laker David Rivers
The San Antonio Spurs signed free agent David Rivers, giving the team 11 players under contract.
Rivers previously had been with three NBA teams--the Lakers, the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Clippers.
“I said it’s entirely up to him, how well he plays, how he fits in,” Spurs Coach Larry Brown said.
Brown said he has had an interest in Rivers since the former Notre Dame star broke in with the Lakers in 1988-89. Rivers averaged 2.9 points in 47 games that season.
The Clippers did not offer Rivers a contract after last season, making him an unrestricted free agent.
