THE SIDELINES : McKeon, Padres Chief to Meet
The head of the San Diego Padres’ new ownership group has scheduled a meeting Friday with General Manager Jack McKeon to discuss the club’s future direction and McKeon’s role in it.
McKeon has one year remaining on a contract that will pay him $400,000 next year, but rumors have surfaced recently that his job may be in danger. The managing general partner, Tom Werner, declined to comment when asked if McKeon would be part of the team’s future.
“We said when we took control of the club months ago we would spend the season analyzing the situation,” Werner said.
Padres officials have talked with their counterparts with other major league teams recently about how they run their operations, Werner said.
