THE SIDELINES : Cecchini Advances in Paris Open
Second-seeded Sandra Cecchini of Italy advanced to the quarterfinals of the Paris Open today with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Alexia Dechaume of France.
Cecchini will face Regina Rajchrtova of Czechoslovakia, the No. 7 seed, who defeated Luciana Corsato of Brazil, 6-2, 6-0.
Also advancing was fifth-seeded Rachel McQuillan of Australia, who beat Elena Pampoulova of Bulgaria, 6-2, 6-4, to set up a quarterfinal match with the No. 1 seed, Conchita Martinez of Spain.
The only American in the tournament, Californian Debbie Graham of Fountain Valley, advanced Wednesday and will face the last surviving French player, sixth-seeded Julie Halard.
