A Boeing 707 crashed and caught fire Thursday while taking off en route to an aircraft graveyard at nearby Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, killing one crew member and injuring two others, authorities said.

The plane was taking off from Pinal Air Park when it made a sharp right turn and the right wing hit the ground, said David Fowler, president of the Evergreen Air Center Inc., which operates the airport for Pinal County.

The plane cartwheeled, the front section broke off and the plane caught fire, he said.
