South Carolina could find out soon if it will receive an invitation to join the Southeastern Conference, university interim president Arthur K. Smith said.

After a meeting with SEC Commissioner Roy Kramer, Smith said the league was South Carolina’s No. 1 choice for its next invitation.

South Carolina and Miami are considered leading candidates to join the conference, which recently added Arkansas as its 11th school.
