Plenty of college and pro football, baseball’s pennant races, an intriguing boxing title fight and the latest effort by the United States to regain world tennis supremacy are among the choices on another crowded sports television weekend.

Four of college football’s top seven teams can be seen on Southern California television screens today beginning at 9 a.m. on Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42 when UCLA visits No. 7 Michigan. San Diego State makes its first major network appearance since Oct. 1, 1983, when it challenges fourth-ranked Brigham Young at noon on KCBS Channel 2 and KFMB Channel 8. Top-ranked Notre Dame and No. 24 Michigan State play at 12:30 p.m. on Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42 and No. 5 USC meets No. 21 Washington at 3:30 p.m. on Prime Ticket.

Thanks to an Anaheim Stadium sellout, KCBS Channel 2 will air Sunday’s Rams-Philadelphia Eagles game at 1 p.m. (The game can also been seen on KFMB Channel 8.) Sunday’s other NFL telecasts match the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants (10 a.m. Channel 4); San Diego Chargers and Cleveland Browns (10 a.m. Channel 39); Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears (10 a.m. Channel 8); Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers (1 p.m. KMIR Channel 36 in Palm Springs) and Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5 p.m. TNT.)

In baseball, the focus shifts to the National League East race when the division-leading Pittsburgh Pirates play host to the St. Louis Cardinals at 10:30 a.m. Sunday on ESPN, and the pursuing but struggling New York Mets can be seen at 11:15 a.m. today and Sunday on WWOR and WGN against the Chicago Cubs. CBS looks at the American League East race by showing a Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees game at 9 a.m. today on Channels 2 and 8.

In a fight expected to get the year’s best network rating, colorful and controversial International Boxing Federation featherweight champion Jorge Paez moves up in weight class to challenge IBF junior-lightweight champion Tony Lopez at 1 p.m. today on Channels 4, 36 and 39.

The doubles team of Rick Leach of Laguna Beach and Jim Pugh of Rancho Palos Verdes seeks to give the U.S. a 2-1 lead in its Davis Cup tennis semifinal match against Austria to be televised delayed by ESPN at 1:30 p.m. today. ESPN will have live coverage of the Andre Agassi-Thomas Muster match at 2:30 a.m. today and delayed coverage of the Michael Chang-Horst Skoff match at midnight Sunday.
