Silver Ending made his move on the final turn, took the lead in midstretch and scored a two-length victory over another Southland-based colt, Music Prospector, in the $300,000 Pegasus Handicap for 3-year-olds at the Meadowlands Friday night.

The victory ended a four-race losing streak for Silver Ending, who finished fifth in the Kentucky Derby. He covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1:47 1/5 in winning for the third time in eight starts this year and for the fifth time in 13 outings.

The time was three-fifths of a second off the stakes and track record set by World Appeal in 1983.

Longshot Senator To Be led the field through the first three quarters of a mile in 1:09 3/5. As the leaders entered the stretch, Senator To Be was a length in front of Runaway Stream with Silver Ending, who had been in fifth on the backstretch, closing with a rush on the outside.

Potentiality broke a close fifth out of the gate, then took the lead after the first quarter en route to a 1 1/2-length victory in Friday’s $100,000 Island Whirl Handicap at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City.

The 4-year-old colt, ridden by Earlie Fires, covered the seven furlongs in a near-record 1:22.2 and paid $22.40, $5.80 and $3.80. Favored Black Tie Affair paid $2.60 and $2.40 and Ankles returned $3.60.
