LOS ALAMITOS : Saturday Dan Takes On Magic Moose

From Times Wire Services

Mark Anderson’s Saturday Dan will try to get back on the winning track Tuesday night at Los Alamitos as the 10-year-old takes on Winn Schwyhart’s Magic Moose and seven others in the $7,200 conditioned trot feature.

The feature is a wide-open affair with Saturday Dan, Googie and Fames Star dropping a notch after facing Nothing Ventured in a $25,000 Free For All.

In post position order, the field is as follows: Moscato Beach, Nicol Tremblay in the race bike; Saturday Dan, Joe Anderson; Arnold’s World, Jack Parker Jr.; Magic Moose, Ross Croghan; Valley Hi, Gene Vallandingham; BH Dynamite, Rick Kuebler; Saving Grace, George Cliff; Googie, Jim Grundy, and Fames Star, Joe Lighthill.

Trained by owner Anderson, Saturday Dan tries a bit easier bunch this time around. The veteran Cal-bred finished last against Nothing Ventured last Tuesday while never getting into the race after breaking stride shortly before the start from his rail post position.

Before that disappointment, Saturday Dan had been a model of consistency. He had four straight wins before coming home third to Thadrow and No Equal on Sept. 12.

Magic Moose, Googie and BH Dynamite all have a strong chance. Magic Moose looked strong in a qualifying race victory on Sept. 15. The 6-year-old Cal-bred son of Carl H had a reasonably successful summer at Sportsmans Park, but came a cropper in his last start there on Aug. 27 as a heavy favorite.

BH Dynamite has reeled off three convincing wins against slightly easier competition.
