State and local authorities are looking into the death of a movie stuntman who was killed this week after miscalculating his landing on a practice jump off a seaside cliff, officials said.

Jay Currin, 34, of Canoga Park, was attempting a 60-foot fall Monday from a cliff at Point Dume State Beach in Malibu when he landed on the edge of an air bag and was thrown onto the rocks along the beach, Sgt. Eugene Cox said.

“He just miscalculated his leap,” Cox said.

Paramedics airlifted Currin to Westlake Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for internal injuries. He died Monday evening, said Sheriff’s Deputy Rafael Estrada.
