Using $8,000 in federal community development block grant funds, the Los Angeles-based Chinatown Service Center plans to open an office in Monterey Park to serve the area’s immigrant communities.

A part-time caseworker will offer counseling, housing information, immigration assistance and other services five days a week.

The office will be at the Asian Youth Center, 1111 S. Atlantic Blvd., Room 104.

Last year, the center served 741 Monterey Park residents at the Chinatown location and at schools in the Monterey Park area, Executive Director Deborah F. Ching said.
