Evangelina B. Daniels; Longtime San Fernando Resident

Evangelina B. Daniels, who had lived in San Fernando since 1921, has died in Vallejo, Calif. She was 75.

Mrs. Daniels died Monday of a heart attack, said her daughter, Maryhilda Neil.

Born Evangelina Barragan on Oct. 2, 1914, in El Paso, she moved to California as a child and settled in San Fernando. In 1934, she married John Anthony Daniels, who died in 1987.

Mrs. Daniels was active with several organizations in San Fernando, including Hijas de Maria at Santa Rosa Catholic Church, the Catholic Youth Organization and the PTA at Santa Rosa Catholic School and St. Ferdinand’s School.

She is survived by her sons, Richard Daniels and Thomas Daniels of Sylmar and John Daniels of Canyon Country; a daughter, Maryhilda Neil of Napa, Calif.; a brother, Carlos Barragan of Mission Hills; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her sister, Hortense Barragan Ramirez of San Fernando, died three weeks ago.

A funeral Mass is to be celebrated at 9 a.m. today at St. Ferdinand’s Catholic Church, 1109 Coronel St., San Fernando, where she was a member. Burial will follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery. J. T. Oswald Mortuary in San Fernando is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in Mrs. Daniels’ name to the Alzheimer’s Assn.
