Western Washington University running back Mike Wagner, the former St. Monica High School star, scored four touchdowns last week in a 30-22 victory over Western Oregon State.
The four touchdowns set a single-game record for Western Washington, an NAIA school in Bellingham. He also established a Columbia Football Assn. record for most touchdowns rushing in one game.
In his team’s only other game this season, a 22-19 loss to Whitworth College, Wagner, The Times’ 1988 Westside Back of the Year, scored two touchdowns. His average of 18 points a game puts him in a four-way tie for first in the nation among NAIA players.
Gail Weldon, owner of a Westside fitness facility and director of physical therapy and trainer at the 1984 Olympic Games, has been named director of medical services for the U.S. Olympic Festival--’91, in Los Angeles next July.
