Irvine’s Millen Gets Record, Wins Pole
Steve Millen of Irvine set a lap record Friday in his Nissan 300 SX to win the pole position for the Jamesway 300 today at Lime Rock Park.
Millen’s time of 50.385 seconds broke the mark of 50.686 seconds set by defending International Motor Sports Assn. circuit GTO champion Pete Halsmer in 1988.
“The car was really good and we thought the pole was possible. We’ve had the pole several times this year and won three races, which is doing as well as anyone,” Millen said.
Finishing a close second in his Mercury CGR XR was GT points leader Dorsey Schroeder, with a time of 50.395 seconds. His teammate Robby Gordon was third.
Halsmer, who trails Schroeder in the standings by six points, will begin fifth.
