Steeler Fan Beaten at Raiders Game

Share

My daughter-in-law and I made a trip to your city specifically to attend the Broncos-Raiders football game (Sept. 9). It was not a good experience.

The verbal abuse was bad enough since it was mostly obscene and completely uncalled for, but we could ignore that. What can’t be ignored is the physical abuse. We were pelted with rocks, grabbed at and shoved as we were quietly making our way out of the stadium. I was grabbed from behind, my hat ripped off and was nearly thrown to the ground by a punk who was twice my size and half my age. Another two “males” (I can’t possibly call them men) tried to run over me with their car while shouting “Get the Bronco fans!”

My son-in-law’s hat was ripped off his head (taking hair and skin with it), and when he tried to get it back, another man, who was at least 220 pounds and about 6- foot-2, shoved my daughter (5-foot-3, 115 pounds) into a group of young women who, to their credit, berated him for shoving women. While Steve tried to come to his wife’s defense, I started seeing red and went after the hat which was being tossed around. Just as I got there, a burly Neanderthal grabbed it, threw it on the ground and jumped up and down on it, destroying several pins.

To give credit where it’s due, about three other Raider fans at least expressed sympathy for us and distaste for the conduct of the majority.
