Steeler Fan Beaten at Raiders Game

Share

I take exception to the remark by Coliseum spokeswoman Alisa Spillman when she referred to the beating of a Steeler fan as an “isolated incident.”

I was in the Coliseum for the Raiders-Steelers game in 1985. My experience then kept me from attending this game. I witnessed several incidents similar to the one that occurred on Sept. 23, which would seem to make this kind of behavior in the Coliseum more commonplace than “isolated.”

I believe these incidents can be prevented by beefing up the security force with off-duty policemen who are instructed to react swiftly and decisively when they see an out-of-line situation. The perpetrators of this kind of brutality quickly lose their enthusiasm when they see one of their pals being carted out of the stands. The sale of beer in the second half of the game should also be discontinued.
